The trip was called Mongolian Adventure, one person’s feedback was “where was the adventure?” which summed it up nicely. Days upon days in the Russian equivalent of a VW Camper van, seeing the same terrain isn’t my idea of amazing. Still, we ate lots of tinned cherries and drank fermented mare’s milk which is as disgusting as it sounds!
Yes i had been there many times for business also posted some pics in past. Also from inner mangolia too china side two different versions . Always having its own charm with ancient touch. Cheers
We hit the same things! Although I wasn’t able to drink mare’s milk, totally bummed me out. How was it? And ride in soviet vans is def enough of an adventure! lol! (Loved those things!)
The Soviet van was cool, ours was padded inside, we found out why after going over all that bumpy terrain (“Where we’re going we don’t need roads”). The mare’s milk was foul! We had it at every place we visited. I can’t see it catching on in the west!
There was a beef flavoured broth/porridge concoction for breakfast which was very odd, but apart from that it was pretty plain. We had an awful lot of tinned cherries (by a lot I mean every breakfast, lunch and dinner). When we dined out our guide seemed most confused that we didn’t order any more.
Great set of pics. We’ve visited Mongolia twice—the first time driving across (usually no road) from west to east and the second on the train east to west. That second trip was just three months ago. The Beatles is currently surrounded by construction and can’t be seen. Thanks for the jaunt.
Yes, it was a bit alarming when our driver abandoned a perfectly good road and headed off across a dirt road – “Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”
Great you went to the Gobi! Camels are the only things I did not see during my Mongolia trip, had not enough time. Looks like something you will never forget. And what I love about Mongolia is that it is not as touristic as the rest yet so it really feels like the real thing!
We went in August and it was still very cold at night in the north. If you do go, please fit a festival into your itinerary, I felt like we really missed out on this.
Looks really cool! A bit greener than Inmer Mongolia on the China-side where I was recently, and seemingly warmer. Did you go in summer? Even in early October when I went it was freezing. Would love to go to Mongolia one day!

This was one of my favorite places to go. I rode horses and camped through a large portion of it for 11 days. Stayed in a ger only one night and yes, we had the stove lit, too! It was amazing. Strenuous, but amazing. I did NOT eat horsemeat.
Honestly, it is the single worst thing I have ever tasted. I would have to say Balut would be first, but I will never try it to find out! I know I keep harping about it but Airag is just THAT darn nasty!!
Looks AMAZING! X

Great photos! I’m glad you let me know they were up!
Besides mare’s milk, did you try any other traditional foods while you were in Mongolia? If you did, I’d love to hear about them.

Haha! One can never have too many tinned cherries, I suppose.

Funnily enough, I’ve not had any since!

We had a day’s camel trek built into our itinerary, we whittled it down to a couple of hours. No one needs the hump for a whole day.

This is quite and adventure, Jane! I fell in love with this place thanks to your pictures. When’s the best time of the year to explore Mongolia?

There was little adventure on our trip, apart from drinking fermented mare’s milk, but it was still a great experience.
