Poll: Winter or Summer Olympics – Which is Best?

Oops, something's gone wrong on Planet Dom

Have you been caught up in Olympics fever, or do you steer clear of any type of sporting events, either televised or in everyday life?

My favourite has to be the Winter Olympics. The thrills! The spills! The danger! Admittedly, I watch most of it through semi-closed fingers as I can’t bear the thought of anyone crashing and hurting themselves; I ruptured my ACL on my second ski trip, so I can feel their pain. Most of all I love the moguls; those guys can’t be human, can they? Their knees must be pneumatic! Wait ’til they get to my age, no amount of Voltarol or Berocca will ease their aching joints.

Winter or summer? Which Olympics do you prefer? Do you revel in the beauty of the ice dance, the exhilaration of the skeleton bob or the speed of the bobsleigh?

Perhaps you prefer the voyeurism of the beach volleyball, the discipline of the dressage or the cut and thrust of the fencing? (Sadly I don’t have any photos of Spicers partaking in beach volleyball, which might turn out to be a blessing in disguise in more ways than one).

So lovely readers, let’s get this conversation started, I’m dying to know:

  • Which Olympics do you prefer, winter or summer?
  • What are your favourite discipline(s)?
  • What event would you like to see added to the programme?
  • Have you tried any of the above, or another sporting event worthy of a mention?
  • What was your greatest sporting achievement?
  • What was your greatest sporting disaster?
  • Which Olympic era do you remember the most fondly?
  • Who were your Olympic heroes?

Spill the beans, I’d love to hear from you!

    • We’re all different, which is what makes us all so interesting! I bet you’re having a great time avoiding all the fuss over curling and which country has an unfair advantage over another!

  1. To be honest I hate the olympics always have lol it bores me to death and takes over the tv. Before netflix my life consisted of reading if the olympics were on. Don’t get me wrong I love sport I played a lot Afl, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, bodyboarding/surfing, skating, baseball, golf, martial arts and basketball. But the olympics take on things that shouldn’t be a sport what is it freestyle gymnastics? The one where they run around or roll around with a ribbon what the heck is that lol dressage a horse doing the work while someone tries to stay on? Might as well add bull riding lol. Love your pics and understand that pain feeling lol but hey even if the voltaren don’t work its still worth getting the partner to massage it in for ya well that helps for me lol even if it is a 2minute massage.
Maybe the olympics will get the younger crowd when they bring in skateboarding lol a gold medal for skateboarding hahaha. Sports πŸ‘ olympics πŸ‘Ž

  2. Yes, they do cover some obscure sports, but once every four years we get to see Snowboard / Ski Cross which is the maddest thing ever! Last night we watched the Snowboard Halfpipe and you’ve got to take your hats off to those guy. You think it’s beyond human capability to perform some of the things they do.

  3. I am not much of a fun cos I work a lot and probably have little time to follow up with especially Olympics. But I enjoy whatever small I get and the adrenaline!!!!!!!! Gets my blood pumping!!!!

  4. Summer
I think we have enough now πŸ™‚
    Half Marathon
90 mins in the York Half Marathon
I once thought it would be a good idea to take a bath before a race. 13 miles and 11 blisters later I realised that I’d had better ideas.
2012 Mo Farah, Jo Pavey, Usain Bolt, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Allyson Felix
But if we go back then the 1980’s Seb Coe, Steve Cram, Daley Thompson

Bet you wish you’d never asked πŸ™‚

    • Daley Thompson was awesome, such a great role model. I loved the 70s with the Russian and Eastern European gymnasts, Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci, and Mary Peters in the pentathlon. Great memories.
